safeguarding

Christ Church is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk and to creating a safe place for everyone to worship and grow in Christ. Concerns about children, young people and adults at risk will be diligently and promptly responded to according to our procedures, recognising the sensitivity it may hold for those involved.

our commitment

  • Create a safe and caring place for all.

  • Safely recruit, train and support all those with any responsibility for children, young people and vulnerable adults to have the skills to recognise and respond to abuse.

  • Listen to and take seriously all those who disclose abuse.

  • Take steps to protect children and adults when a safeguarding concern of any kind arises, following House of Bishops guidance, including notifying the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (DSA) and statutory agencies immediately.

  • Ensure that there is appropriate insurance cover for all activities involving children and adults undertaken by the church.

  • Offer support to victims/survivors of abuse regardless of the type of abuse.

  • Following advice from DSA support and manage the safe involvement of any member of the church community who may pose a risk to children and adults whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality and safety of all parties.

  • Ensure that procedures and risk assessments are in place for all activities and that these are reviewed annually.

The PCC of this church agreed and adopted the above Policy at it’s meeting held on 25 January 2021. The PCC review this policy annually.

We are supported by the Diocese of Guildford and follow their guidelines. The safe recruiting process is followed for all volunteers who work with children, young people and adults. This may require an application to the Disclosure and Barring service or an interview and references being taken up, prior to a volunteer joining the relevant teams.

Concerns about children, young people and adults at risk will be responded to according to our procedures, by either our Church Safeguarding Officers or Clergy Team who may liaise with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team
