The Lord’s prayer through Lent - No.2

“Our father

The problem: Life is very demanding and it is difficult to sit down and pray.

The answer:  We find a different way to pray.

The model:  We turn to the Lord’s prayer as we go about the day to stimulate our prayer.

Today we think about ‘father’.  This has such depth, that we could easily spend many sessions digging into this wonderful truth and getting a handle on its implications for us.  It speaks first of all about our adoption into the family of God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  We are told in John Ch 1 v 12 “To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent nor human decision nor a husband’s will but born of God.”  Jesus came that we might be adopted.

This is the one truth to meditate on today.    In natural birth, whilst a parent decides to have a child, they don’t choose a particular child – rather one is given to them. The child is a gift.   In adoption, the child is in some way chosen.  In adopting you, God has chosen you!  God has chosen you!  Wow!

Lift you head high today, tell yourself that you are a child of the Cosmic Creator God.   Meditate on that and see how it changes your view of God, yourself and your relationship to the world!
